Cisco Jabber Video (former movi) for Android Tablets

Why differentiate the iPad app which can register via VCS/TMS and not allow the Android client to do the same?

Hi Tim,

Our Jabber roadmap focus is on CUCM.  As an example see the new universal Jabber for iPhone and iPad 9.6 release.  This is due to overall focus on incorporating VCS functionalities into CUCM (including the Collaboration Edge functionality that was originally provided by VCS-E for VCS/TMS customers only).

Hi Dave,

We just provided a new build of our beta Jabber for Android 9.6 client.  You can sign up to trial the client here: Private - CUG Pre-release Trials

The 9.6 client will be an integrated IM, Voice, and Video client for Jabber on Android, and will also target support for capabilities such as URI Dialing, Secure Phone, and Collaboration Edge VPN-less secure access.  The target release is Q1CY14.

The Android tablet plans have not been committed yet.

Is Jabber for Android, similar to how the iPad is, as you can register the device and use video for those that have a video only infrastructure such as the VCS, as the iPad does?

Jabber for Android 9.6 only provides CUCM-based voice and video.  It will not support VCS registration.

Any targeted release date for the new app.  People are walking in all day with Android tablets looking for a client.  Is there a beta i can test?  Maybe give to a few users (depending on licenceing) to test at least to calm everyone down?  They think cicso does not support Android.

Thanks for the reply.  In a few previous posts there was signs of a preview / beta release.

Any possability to get a copy?  Something to test with no warentews of course.  Boss replaced his ipad air with a Samsung Note 3.  And wants to try something.

Hi Brian,

Android tablet support is now available with the Jabber for Android 10.5 release (see release notes for specific tablets supported).  This client requires CUCM for video support.  We have no plans to support VCS as call control.

The cisco VC users are being forced to load the Polycom app on android devices and access the VCS via the expressway. Looks very strange that Android has 80% of the market and cisco is not looking to do a VCS development
