CWMS 4.0 Upgrade - Productivity Tools Compatibility

We are the in process of upgrading our CWMS environment from 2.8 to 4.0. Currently, we are running Productivity Tools 2.82.7000.1199. The release notes for CWMS 4.0 state that the Webex Meetings Desktop Application replaces the WebEx Meeting application and Productivity Tools.

Are the Productivity Tools compatible with CWMS 4.0? Or do we need to push an update to all users after/during the upgrade?

Hi mbrandon32,
Hope you're doing well. I'm facing the same "issue", we're planning to proceed with the CWMS upgrade from version 3.0 to 4.0 and all the users are using Productivity Tools version 2.82.7000.1223. Did you come up with any solution? Is everything working with new version 4.0?
Thank you!
Best Regards,
Bruno Marques

I upgraded our test environment about 4 weeks back and have yet to deploy the new desktop app. We are running the same Productivity Tools version that you are running with the CWMS environment upgraded to 4.0MR1 and have yet to run into any issues. We plan on upgrading our 2000 user MDC deployment in a couple weeks, then deploying the new desktop app a few weeks after.

Thank you for your feedback. I could only find the following information on Cisco side:
"Each server version shall have its Productivity tools, for 4.0 basis this shall be used.

This package contains Windows and Mac installers for client and tools:
- Installers for Mac:
Cisco Webex Meetings Desktop App
Cisco WebEx Network Recording Player
- Installers for Windows:
Cisco Webex Meetings Desktop App
Cisco WebEx Network Recording Player"

But they never confirm if the previous Productivity Tools versions are compatible or not.

Sorry for the delayed response - you've probably found your answer to this but the CWMS 4.0 release notes mentions:

Webex Productivity Tools

The Webex Meetings desktop app replaced Webex Productivity Tools for Cisco Webex Meetings Server 4.0. However, if you need to use Productivity Tools as part of your upgrade strategy, only version 2.82.7000.1229 or later is compatible.

Has anyone upgraded CWMS directly from 2.8 to 4.0 like it states in the upgrade guide? Cisco TAC told me that you need to upgrade to 3.0 and then 4.0. Which makes sense, but the guide doesn't say that. Can anyone confirm?

Yes - we upgraded successfully from 2.8 to 4.0. However, you need to deploy new servers for the 4.0 environment. Once you process the upgrade on the 2.8 admin server(s), you will migrate the disk that houses the database over to the new 4.0 admin server(s). All steps should be covered in the upgrade doc. You also need to ensure that you read through the pre-requisites listed in the planning guide >> .
