Hi guys, hope you can clear something up for me.
We're slowly rolling out Windows Jabber, our environments setup has not been designed for hot desking (Health Service), so 99% of extensions are fixed to the phones. We have a small handful of users that generally grab a desk wherever they can find one, some of these users are being setup to use Jabber, but as they do not have a fixed extension we are not able to associate them with a specific device, so they are only able to use it for IM.
Most of our workstations/laptops connect to our LAN via a Cisco IP phone, is there a way to setup the users Jabber account to auto detect what fixed extension IP Phone is connected via the device they have logged into jabber with? So once it knows the extension that the user is sitting at it will then associate their Jabber account with that phone - on a temporary basis of course.
I have been in environments where it's the opposite, users have extension mobility and wherever they login to their workstation/laptop it automatically logs the user into their desk IP phone and thus the extension follows the user. But can it be done how I've described above?
I'm assuming it's not something that's available yet, or that there's much demand for - but you never know, someone else may have done this.
Thanks.
Daryl.

No, there is no way to automatically associate a phone to Jabber.
In order for you to use deskphone control, you need to associate the device to the user in CUCM, and that is a fixed configuration, the only way to do this, would be to enable EM for the phones, associate each user's UDP to their profile, and then, they would take control of the EM logged devices via Jabber.
You can certainly have a solution in which you login to EM via your laptop with a 3rd party, and then launch Jabber to control the phone via CTI.

you will need to go towards extension mobility because your current requirements are mutually exclusive,
to make hot desk and EM work more transparently, check this post:
