Jabber 12.1 - How to install in Phonemode only

Hi,

One customer is using CUCM 12.0.1 and Jabber 12.1 without IMP server installed.

How can we install the Jabber 12.1 to “Phonemode only”?

The question because due to this guide the “product_mode” should be set

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/jabber/12_1/cjab_b_on-prem-deployment-121/cjab_b_on-prem-deployment-121_chapter_01101.html

Bootstrap Settings for On-Premises Deployments in Phone Mode

During installation, you set values for arguments as follows:

Set CUCM as the value for AUTHENTICATOR.

Set phone_mode as the value for PRODUCT_MODE.

And due to this guide the “product_mode” should not set during installation of Jabber but will be deployed via the service profile from CUCM

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/jabber/12_1/cjab_b_on-prem-deployment-121/cjab_b_on-prem-deployment-121_chapter_010000.html#JABW_TK_I9C31B14_00

Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Release 9.x and Later — You should not set PRODUCT_MODE during installation. The client gets the authenticator from the service profile. After the user signs in, the client requires a restart to enter phone mode.

Question is if we now should use this “product_mode=phone_mode” during installation or how we can set this “product_mode=phone_mode” via the service profile?

Do not check the option under user to enable for IM&P, and do not assign a service profile with an IM&P server, rest of the configuration is the same.

Hi Jaime,

many thanks.

So that means the install parameter PRODUCT_MODE=phone_mode is not neccessary, correct?

At the enduser only "Home cluster" without "Enable User for Unified CM IM and Presence" and at the service profile no IMP servers, correct?

No, you can control the Jabber mode for each user via the settings in CUCM and IM&P to change to phone mode only, IM only, or full UC.
