I have been using the Self Provisioning Feature on CUCM starting with version 10.5. It works great.
We setup phone device auto registration on the CUCM Call Manager server. The phone registers, then we dial the IVR for Self Provisioning and enter the PIN code.
What is confusing is that the Self Provisioning Feature refers to the User Profile which has selections for Jabber and Mobile Self Provisioning templates. I am not aware of a way to setup Jabber to auto register as a phone device.
Please let me know if you have any experience with auto registration on the Jabber side as we are trying to save programming time in users getting their Jabber phones up and running.
