I'm currently working on a client system that is not LDAP integrated. I'm having an issue with the client on iphone and android not logging into the directory. Everything else is functional( chat, phone service, voicemail). Does any one know if this is because its not LDAP? I'm leaning toward yes but, cannot justify taking down the system to LDAP integrate at the moment.

All of the Jabber clients can use either LDAP or UDS as the directory, you just need to configure the behavior you want. The default directory is EDI, if you want UDS or BDI, you need to configure that.
The Jabber documentation has a whole chapter dedicated to the directory integration that explains how it works, and how to configure.

You need BDI configuration for iPhones, Androids and MAC.
Windows client uses EDI, and it can even take the domain settings from the PC. Please refer the below sample configurations.
