Jabber: Messages delivered to mobile only, not laptop

We're required to use Jabber by our firm. I have it installed on my Android device, and of course, run it on my primary system (laptop).

If my laptop is sleeping, or I'm not signed in to Jabber on my laptop, any messages that are sent to me will appear on Jabber for mobile, but when I start Jabber on my laptop, those messages do not load. This is an awkward way to carry on a conversation when some parts of it aren't even displayed on the device being used. Is this a bug, or is there something the IT staff and my org can do to make this work correctly?

Hi there

I think this is only supported with cloud deployments starting 11.5

Multiple Device Messaging (Cloud)—Users who are signed into multiple devices can now see all sent and received IMs on each device regardless of which device is active. Notifications are synchronized; if an IM is read on one device, it shows as read on other signed-in devices. This feature is enabled by default, but can be disabled with the Disable_MultiDevice_Message parameter. The following limitations apply:

  • Clients must be signed-in. Signed-out clients do not display sent or received IMs or notifications.

  • File transfer between multiple devices is not supported—Files are available only on the active devices that sent or received the file.

  • Group chat is not supported.

  • Multiple device messaging cannot be enabled if AES encryption is required.

  • Applies to cloud deployments only.
