I'm trying to use Russian language Nuance ASR (which I have installed). If i try to specify the utterances the caller can say using Russian keyboard character, the Nuance logs show that it's recogniizing just fine, but I get error.semantic from the VxmlGateway when the Nuance returns a value in Russian alphabet.

Does anyone know a way around this? Is there a Gateway configuration I can use for Russian characters? Or something else that needs to be done?

Thanks! Janine

Have no ideas about your question. Maybe you could try to post the question to Voice Gateway forum
http://developer.cisco.com/web/vgapi/forums

Or open a SR for looking at the GW logs.

Hi Dave,

This was for someone I was helping.

Here's their reply: We did get a fix. The reason for the error was incorrect UTF-8 encoding a recognition result in Russian on the CVP side.

Please note Cisco did not provide a patch but with a custom element fixing this error.

This element needs to be inserted after each voice form element with ASR used.

See attached zip with pictures and the java for the custom studio element.

I think I am getting a different error but I will still try your fix.  Here is the offending record in the nuance log.  Take a look at the RAWT value.  I think that is causing the Gateway to throw an error.

Can you try setting the encoding to UTF-16 under project properties in the
studio app?

Greg,
Can you try setting the encoding to UTF-8 and make sure that on your Nuance server, you've got the NSS configuration set to encoding UTF-8 also.

Hi Greg,
Did you try setting encoding to UTF-8? I've asked around, and that should fix the problem.

I have my app set to UTF-8.  I am still looking for the setting in Nuance.

Does setting it just in your app fix the error?

Under ProgramFiles/Nuance somewhere. It's called something like - NSSserver.cfg (?)
The setting is server.session.ossrec.nlsml.encoding - it probably says us-ascii and should be utf-8

Hi Greg,

I had faced this problem earlier, but somehow we have managed to get the solution from Cisco.

There is nothing that, you have to change in Nuance configurations. There is a command in gateway which has to be configured to accept UTF-8 character set (UTF-8 used by non-English languages like French, Hindi, and Spanish etc...)

-> If you have any of these IOS's then you are lucky otherwise you might have to upgrade
12.4(24)T5
15.0(1)M5
15.1(1)T4
15.1(2)T4
15.1(3)T4
15.1(4)M
15.2(1)T
Or any later version's
-> Now execute this hidden command on VXML Gateway “mrcp client accept-charset-compliance” (supported only on above mentioned IOS)
