I don't know about Nuance9, but in the past the xml-form grammars, when compiled, ended with the '.gram' extension (for example, http://www.mySite/departmentGrammar.gram)
The only issue is that many web-servers and web-browsers don't understand what the '.gram' extension is, so you may have to configure your web-server by specifying the .gram extension and set its expiry time value so it doesn't expire from the ASR server's cache immediately.
