Created by: Marko Laurits on 23-10-2012 04:08:48 AM I would like to create a serial cable for managing SX20 device. I understand, I have to create an Y-cable between camera RJ45 and the bundled camera cable. Where can I find the RJ45 plug pin-out? Especially the pins that are used for the "serial ports"? Thank you in advance!

By using the so-called "break out cable" that you are describing, you need to put the camera control port to serial mode which means you cannot communicate VISCA anymore to your camera. This means you cannot use it as remote control sensor, or control the camera. The best way is therefore to use serial to USB. This cable should be used for managing the system. The USB connection is coming up after the system has come up, so for troubleshooting boot issues you would need to use the break-out cable. This cable should be orderable now or very soon. Partnumber is 72-100203-01. Connecting with USB cable Using the USB connector: You need a USB to serial cable, a null-modem cable/converter and a serial to PC (typically US You will not get any connection in the early boot process including U-boot, hence the camera connector serial is more valuable in an error scenario Connect with baud rate 115200 Procedure to connect with break out cable: 1. Turn off power on the SX – power cord must be left plugged in 2. Unplug camera cable from the SX and connect the serial cable to the camera connector. 3. Point remote control toward the IR sensor (the power button) and push *13#7469, the LED will indicate reception of each click – the LED will turn red: camera connector is now in serial(RS232) mode and the camera will not work. Turn on the SX by pressing the power button 4. Connect over the serial line with Baud rate 115200 5. When done you need to remove the power cable from the SX20 in order to change the camera connector back to camera operation mode. 6. Replug the camera, power cord and turn the SX20 back on 7. To re-activate VISCA mode so you can use the camera, you must unplug the power cable

Per Mike Lambrix: Any USB to Serial adapter cable with the PL-2303 (Prolific chipset) works the best Also, double check the serial port setting on SX20 for the baud rate
