We have one Unity 4.0(4) server running Windows 2000 Server, connected to our Exchange 2003 server in a Windows 2003 R2 domain. I ordered and received a new Unity 7.0 server. Can I "migrate" the 4.0(4) Unity installation to the new server directly, or do I have to conduct a phased migration with upgrades to 4.0(4) to achieve this? I am bogged down in that vast amount of documentation that is on the Cisco site and need a little bit of a process roadmap. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks markh

Here is the procedure which we need to follow for migrating Unity 4.x to 7.x

1. You need the necessary upgrade license for Unity 7.x

2. If you are migrating both software and hardware, you need to take care of the existing subscriber information. You can upgrade the software/database on the 4.0.4 server directly to Unity 7.x.

3. Do a DIRT backup and restore it on the new server

4. You can run the AD schema and permission wizard for Unity 7.0 while having 4.0 up. For more details please check the release notes that explains the changes in AD from verstion 4.x to 7.x - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/7x/release/notes/702curelnotes.html

5. Even though the URL discusses for upgrading from 4.x to 5.x, it is applicable for 7.x too - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/5x/upgrade/guide/ex/5xcuruge020.html

Is a scheme update required for the 4.x to 7.x?  How intrusive is the schema update?  Our AD guys do not want any changes to the schema.
