Core Issue
In some cases, if the hostname of the server contains non-Domain Name System (DNS) supported characters like underscore (for example, CCM_1), and if the name is specified as part of the URL in the Internet Explorer (IE) browsers 5.5 or 6.0, the page does not load and time out.
Resolution
This problem is observed only with IE 5.5 or 6.0 browsers containing Microsoft vulnerability patch Q313675. This problem is not observed with other versions of IE browsers or with Netscape.
The short-term solution for this problem is to replace the machine name with the IP address in the URL.
The long-term solution is to avoid using non-DNS supported characters in the hostname of the Windows servers, including the Cisco CallManager server.
Domain Name System (DNS) supported characters include all letters (A-Z, a-z), numbers (0-9), and hyphen (-) and any special characters are not allowed.
This problem is also addressed in Cisco bug ID CSCdw52774.
