Should be able to refer the query asked, to someone who is expert

Hello,

Often people ask queries regarding security in wan routing and switching forum and it may happen vise versa or sometimes person might not get the query answered in the proper forum even.

We must be able to refer the query to whom we feel that he is good in asked subject.

Its purely persons wish who is been refered whether to answer or not? It should not be revealed to other persons until he answers

Most of the times when I ask someone to help the person who is in an issue almost all of the times people whom I have refered answered it.

I do this by private mail service.

Thanveer

I guess the CSC doesnt really have any moderators that would actively monitor the forums and move discussions to the correct sections of the forum like many other sites do.

I think that would probably be the most common solution to getting the questions answered.

Personally I get notifications to my email from Security/Firewall and Security/VPN sections and those are pretty much the only sections I view regularly. So I probably miss some questions on the other section that could be answered if they were originally posted in the "correct" section.

I am not sure if I understood you correctly but are you suggesting that there should be a option/button/link which would enable user to automatically send information about a thread in question to a specific CSC user that is known to be an expert/knowledgeable on the subject?

I guess it might work but to me it would seem more efficient to have moderators on the forums which could simply move the thread/discussion to the correct section and also generate a notification to the original poster about this.

Hello JouniForss,

What I meant was any user must be able to refer the question to someone who is matter of expert.

Basically what happens

NO 1)

User will pose a question in wrong forum example a security question in some other forum which is not related to it.

Then I know some people who are experts in the area of security, I must be able to refer it them.

In the same manner it can be for any of the forums.

No2) User may pose the question in the right forum and may be I am not able to answer it and I know some one who can answer it, even in that scenario I must be able to refer it to them.

No3) Ther are some scenarios where in user will get no reply even after 210 views, in this case it must be triggered to cisco employee who are expert in the field(Moderators Required)

example: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2205949?tstart=0

then cisco employee who are expert in the field must come in to picture aand solve the case.

This is because user will pose a question in an hectic situation.

If cisco appoints some Moderators then it would be more appriciable. Its really a nice thought of you.

Hope you understand.

I belive Cisco will understand the situation and help them, after all they are helping the engineers who can give them a good buisiness, Cisco should a good business and people like us must be always benifited by cisco. Added the sentence for some humor....!

Will rate all the helpful posts

Hello JouniForss,

Missed this,

even I refer it some one it doesnot mean that they must answer it, Its their wish whether or not to answer. The information of any user user who is refering it to and the person who is been refered must not be revealed.

If the answer is right and the user has put it to right answer then the person who refered it must be awarded with some marks and then the information can be revealed on the Site.

We can also put a award for the stating

best reference award(the person who is refered most and answered the queries)

we may also award the person who referd it.

Hi,

I guess in a sense adding something like this could make the use of the CSC a bit more efficient.

There could even be a field at the bottom which would let you enter a username/userid to which you would want to refer/forward the question to. Perhaps add several names to the list and then use a separate button to forward some generic message to the person with addition to a link to the referred discussion.

Though the first negative side that comes to my mind of this sort of implementation is that it could be used for spamming. Someone could simply spam messages to a multitude of users intentionally to cause problems.

A possible mechanism to avoid this could for example be that the user referring the post to someone else would already have earned a predefined amount of points on the CSC to be able to use this functionality. This would atleast partially ensure that only people that are REALLY participating on these forums would be able to use this functionality. It would probably prevent most if not all missuse since I couldnt imagine some active participant using this for spamming purposes.

Also the point about making this something that rewards the person that forwards information about the question to others seems nice also.

I guess this would require some comments from Cisco if it was doable or if it was something they would feel was needed or beneficial to the CSC.

Hello,

Yes, You are exactly correct.

There should be a mechanism like user must have some predefined points like

Pesrson with a criteria of marks(100 minimum) and or any of the awards specified in the forum must be able to access this.

He must submit his user name and password and then it should go for an approval to the person who he has referd and if the person wills and approves then he must be able to answer, if this is made for the purpose of spam, then the person who has been refered must be able to mark it as "report abuse" or "spam" something like that.

If cisco responds to it, then it may help lot of persons who are in forum and they may will to actively participate in the forums.

Moreover in the forum like Community Ideas there must be an option for calling the people to respond upon the post. Like if I would like some vip designated person or somebody else to respond upon my query then I must be able to do so.

There are lot of Ideas lets put one by one. I understand the importance of Cisco Forum, It helped me when I was in hectic situations many times. It must reach to every Network Engineer.

There are lot of Network Engineers I saw Who dont even know about the forum and I suggest them to make Ids and participate in the discussions.

Thanveer and Jouni,

This feature is available today.  If you click on "send as email" in the actions widget you can send a conversation to the user of your choice.

We do have dedicated moderators for many communities on our site who do watch them daily.  Please visit our "Behind the Scenes" community for more information on them.

Cheers,

Dan

Doh,

I have completely missed that Then again I have had need for it.

I guess this partly handles what Thanveer was hoping for. I guess it would still lack the ability to "reward" those people that actively use it to notify the correct people.

Do the moderators ever move discussions to other areas or do they only react when someone notifies about a situation where the topic is in a wrong section of forums?

- Jouni

Hello dbruhn and JouniFross

That is fantastic...

We also have an option move discussion

I have the Same two questions as Jouni asked above.

I meant  the "Doh" as me being blind to not noticing the Email think.

Maybe I should start calling Dan -> Doh

Thanks  smile emoticon

Hello,

I saw Behind the Scenes and I found no technical manager to service provider Forum and some others.

Thanks

Thanveer.

Hi Thanveer,

Yes, some of the communities that have lower volumes of content don't have dedicated managers.   Even if there isn't a dedicated manager each community has numerous employees who watch them regularly and jump in discussions as needed.

Cheers,

Dan

Thanveer and Jouni,

It wouldn't be the first, and won't last time I was referred to as Doh

Yes, in this case you cannot reward the person who rated you because you are unaware of who they are.  Ratings tend to come from the person who posted the question.  If someone else besides the author rates a response they will normally post something like "great answer +5".

As for the moderators moving threads they do make a best effort to ensure their communities only have relevant content and move discussions if necessary.  That said, with the volume of content we receive it's very difficult to catch everything.  If you do see posts that should be moved please feel free to private message the dedicated community managers and let them know.

Cheers,

Dan

Hmm I completly agree with you dbruhn,

My intension was only to award and recognise the person who has refered the query, but its ok.

I feel happy that we have an option to refer it to someone.

Still there are some unreplied queries and discussions in the forum, for example https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2205949?tstart=0 hence I request you to facilitate a mechanism for triggering such issues to the expert in the field.

The above mentioned was only one example might be there are some more.

Hope you understood
