Using YANG to Create Network-Layer APIs (2017 Las Vegas)

Speaker(s)

Giles Heron - Principal Engineer, Cisco

Please Note: By registering for this session, it does not guarantee you a seat. Seating is available on a first come first seated basis. TCONF/YANG is now supported on many Cisco, and third party, devices. Using NETCONF/YANG frees the developer from the complexity of parsing CLI responses, and as model standardisation occurs will abstract away the syntax differences between devices. However greater benefits can be realised by operating at a network-wide, rather than per-device level. In this approach the OSS developer can interact with the network, or sets of devices, rather than managing individual devices. In this session I will present two use-cases for network-wide operation. 1) Use of the I2RS topology models in OpenDaylight with BGP-LS and PCE-P to optimise network traffic. 2) use of NSO to configure service instances across multiple devices. Taking place in the DevNet Zone.

5G Mobile Backhaul and Fronthaul Evolution (2017 Las Vegas)

Mobile operators major challenges are expanding network capacity, new revenue generating application & services and optimization of business relationship with partners (e.g. OTT providers). It is time for next generation of mobility that is "5G: connect anything which can be connected". 5G will be led by new services broadband access everywhere (1Gpbs per UE), massive internet of things, tactile internet, higher user mobility and ultra-reliable communications. These services require low latency and high throughput, unified application aware Ethernet backhaul and fronthaul, programmability and virtualization, phase and frequency clocking, security and network slicing. In addition to radio evolution, it is critical to invest in backhaul evolution otherwise RAN gains will not be realized. To address these requirements, this session will address transport transformation through Agile Carrier Ethernet (Segment Routing, EVPN, NSO), stringent synchronization through phase and frequency. micro data centers, CPRI replacement to address 5G fronthaul requirements , virtualization and split of packet core to bring data plane closer to the user. Operational simplicity through Autonomic networking, telemetry for network insight and proactive health monitoring (ROBOT) and orchestration through NSO.. LTE/LTEA has already introduced strict latency and clocking requirement. 5G will take these requirements to the next level. This session will help mobile operators as well as alternate access vendors (AAV) to assess their 5G mobile backhaul readiness.
