Cisco 93180YC-EX FEX Upgrade Process

I am trying to find out the upgrade process of connected FEX's when doing a software upgrade. Are the FEX's upgraded sequentially one at a time or are they upgraded in parallel at the same time?

Hello @Joshua Head,
Hope you are doing well.

I can't find a nexus 9000 documentation where it's explicitly said but in the one below as shared by @marce1000 , it's suggested.
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/dcn/nx-os/nexus9000/103x/upgrade/cisco-nexus-9000-nx-os-software-upgrade-downgrade-guide-103x/m-upgrading-or-downgrading-the-cisco-nexus-9000-series-nx-os-software.html

Non-disruptive upgrade > Sequentially
Disruptive upgrade > Parallel

Now from field experience, when disruptive upgrade is performed I've observed the same.

Hope it helps.

Kind regards,

In the Non-disruptive upgrade with FEX, each FEX will upgrade taking about 90 secondss
(1.5 minutes) sequentially (one-by-one and not a parallel upgrade).

Hi @Joshua Head ,
Hope you are doing well.

Just to add on top of @marce1000 reply another reference documentation for fex upgrade in VPC topology this time.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/dcn/nx-os/nexus9000/105x/configuration/fex/cisco-nexus-2000-series-nx-os-fabric-extender-configuration-guide-for-cisco-nexus-9000-series-switches--release-105x.html

Have a nice day

Kind Regards,

Thanks Anpetit, both of these responses cover the disruptless process however there isnt anything I can find in the 9K documentation which covers the FEX upgrade process in a disruptful upgrade process.

The only mention I can find is in 7K documentation which states that in a disruptful upgrade they will upgrade in parallel. Any furhter insight you can provide?
