Have a customer who is buying TAC support for the Essentials Edition. Since there is no longer a license required, how does each instance get tied to the support contract?

That's not the question. I know the sku. Question is how the instance of n1k gets linked to the support contract when there is no longer any license. With hardware we knew the serial number. We won't know the serial number for n1k until it's installed. Are we requiring the customer to provide a list of serial numbers once they install?

The license is tied to the Host ID of the VSM. This is assigned during installation/deployment. The customer would have full TAC support once they've registered the licenses against the Host-ID. Beyond that they just purchase x-amount of CPU licenses (depending on the total VEM socket counts) which get installed on the VSM.
