My question is similar to https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12439391/filter-reply only I'm not wishing to filter by reply-to address, instead I would like to send a notify (or any other action that would accomplish the same goal) to the reply-to field in the message header.
My company website has a contact form. I would like to use our Ironport C170 to filter that message by sender and subject (successfully doing that now), but this contact form is unique in that the sender address is specified by the application, however, when the user completes the form they enter THEIR email address. When the email arrives, the users email address is contained in the reply-to field, so that if you hit the reply button in your mail client, your are replying to the submitter of the form. I want to kick back an auto response to that submitter to pass along some important information. Therefore i need to extract that reply-to field out of the header. The 'Notify' action of the content filter will let me select 'sender', 'recipients', or custom email address or variable. I can't find a variable that points to the reply-to address and it doesn't seem to like expressions like suggested in the referenced discussion above.
Thanks,
Garrett Hensley

Hello Garrett,
The ESA does not store the Reply-To as an action variable that can be used, so to pull this variable off the email to use for the actions is currently not available.
The notify action only supports the following variables:
Where the envelopefrom is the From: header that you will see on the MUA (Outlook), while the Envelope Sender is likely the application form.

Matthew

Mathew,
Thanks for your reply. So there is no functionality in an Iron Port C170 to achieve my goal? Even aside from the notify function?
Thanks again,
Garrett

Hey Garrett,
Yep the Notify function would be the only option to meet this request, however the ESA is unable to store the Reply-To value as an action variable as a supported means.
If the actual user who sent the email was logged in the Header From address instead/as well of Reply-To,then we can use the Notify action for this.

Matthew

Mathew,
I may see if I can modify the contact form to put the user in the from address, then I may need to change it back so that the person monitoring the inbox knows the message came from the website.
Thanks for your help,
Garrett
