Hi,
I am experiencing issues where trying to install our first 7821 phone to our CUCM environment for the first time…
Basically the phone will not register to the Call Manager and just remain in an “unknown” state.
I have recently installed the following to cater for this series;
Firmware = cmterm-78xx.10-1-1SR1-4.cop
Devicepack = cmterm-devicepack8.6.2.24123-1.cop
The entire cluster was restarted post installing these.
I can browse to the phone and the following status message displays;
[06:46:26p,11/04/12] Time zone data download failed
[06:46:56p,11/04/12] ITL Installed
[06:46:57p,11/04/12] SEP885A92D9D1CE.cnf.xml.sgn(HTTP)
[06:47:01p,11/04/12] Time zone data download failed
[06:47:31p,11/04/12] ITL Installed
[06:47:32p,11/04/12] SEP885A92D9D1CE.cnf.xml.sgn(HTTP)
[06:47:36p,11/04/12] Time zone data download failed
[06:48:21p,11/04/12] ITL Installed
[06:48:22p,11/04/12] SEP885A92D9D1CE.cnf.xml.sgn(HTTP)
[06:48:26p,11/04/12] Time zone data download failed
The phone has the appropriate network settings and holds our two tftp's etc...
Any ideas where to look now?
Cheers!

From the error: time zone data download fails it seems like you are hitting bug CSCuj27391: https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuj27391

I have managed to get the phone registered.
I was told by a colleague that all SIP phones must have a DN assigned before they will register. I assigned one and the phone registered after a reset.
Never heard of that one before but it seemed to work...
Thanks for the input!
Cheers!

Hi,
I have the exact same problem as described by you.
I have assigned a DN to Line 1 on the phone in my CUCM and the phone is still not registering.
Can you kindly post the steps that you did to solve this problem ?

Im having the same issue - 79XX phones register just fine, but the 7821 is having issues.
Like you, I have a DN on line 1.
Did you resolve your issue - if so - how?
