7841 "shield" icon

Seeking advice/understanding on whether the "shield" icon ought to appear when calls are made between two Cisco 7841 phones (both have their Security Profile set to SIP Authenticated profile).

This currently works with 7962 handsets. Online documentation does not specify whether 7841 supports this. Call Manager is running at 10.5.

Any assistance/advice is appreciated.

Some phone models display only the lock icon, I wasn't able to find any mention of a shield icon support for 7800 series phones in the user or admin guide for it, lock icon is mentioned though.

The phone displays a shield icon for calls with a signaling security level of authenticated. A shield identifies a secured connection between Cisco IP devices, which means that the devices have authenticated or encrypted signaling.

The phone displays a lock icon for calls with encrypted media, which means that the devices are using encrypted signaling and encrypted media

Refer the Security Icon Display Rules

I haven't tested it but don't any reason why not to work on 7841

Hi Mohammed, many thanks for your reply. A colleague of mine believes it's not available on the 7841, and my testing also shows this is the case.

Just trying to see if anyone can confirm it's available (as it's not clearly documented anywhere).

Hi Aeby,

Thank you kindly for your detailed response. It appears as though the 7800 range doesn't support it, and hence why I'm unable to get it to work.

Thanks once again,
