I've heard that from within the SEP*mac*.cnf file you can disable or enable the backlight specifically. Anyone know the line that needs to be in there to do this? I checked over my SEP*mac*.cnf for keywords "back" and "light" and go no responses so I think (I hope) I may be able to turn it on by adding the line.

The 7970 and 7971 have a luminous display - not a backlight, when the display goes off the entire screen blanks.

Hi,
I'm not 100% sure, but the 797x display can have been implemented with a passive TFT and backlight.
The reason I say that, is because the Gent. in trouble, said that he could still read the display although very dim, and this is symptomatic of a blown backlight in TFT displays.
