ATA 186 to Valcom 1109RTVA

I have a Cisco ATA 186 and I would like to connect this to a Valcom 1109RTVA. If I connect an analog phone to a port on the ATA, the phone rings, but when I connect the extension just rings ... Has anyone had experience connecting a Valcom 1109RTVA to an ATA? Do I need to use a FXO Port instead of FXS?

Not sure about that particular model. But I have interfaces with Valcom and

have used FXO in all cases.
