I have a strange problem that has left me scratching my head. I have a small remote office that uses an ATA 186 for a fax machine and an analog cordless phone. About a month ago the cordless phone stopped working or so we thought. When you attempt to make a call, you received dial tone, dial the number, one ring and immediately receive a fast busy. Inbound also do not work to the analog phone. If I swap the fax machine line with the cordless line, the problem follows the cordless phone. Nothing has changed in the configuation of the line or the ATA. We have replaced the cordless phone, the phone cable and the ATA - all to no avail. Any ideas or pointers?

Hi Tim,
Have a look at these two good posts that relate to this exact issue (supported codecs on Port 1 vs Port 2);
From Paul @ Cisco;
From Jan;
Hope this helps!

That was the trick. We had changed the codec earlier in the month.
