Hi Malik,

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

1>     As per software compatibility matrix:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr1.pdf

There is no direct upgrade from 5.1 to 8.5. You would need to upgrade to a minimum of 6.1(4) first, followed by an upgrade to 8.5(1).

2>     Remember to take DRS backups prior to every upgrade i.e. before upgrade to 6.1 and before upgrade to 8.5. Also, take a backup of 8.5.

3>     Do a fresh install of CUCM 8.5 (same version and build as currently installed on your MCS server) onto the UCS platform.

4>     Apply for licenses for MAC address in output "show status" of the Publisher of the newly installed 8.5 on UCS.

5>     Restore the DRS backup taken from MCS cluster onto the UCS platform.

Hi Malik,

Hope you're doing well. Please take a look at another recent post where I had provided all relevant links for a migration such as yours:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2200835

Note: Please review the compatibility matrix I provided to see the upgrade path from 5.1 to 8.5.

Dear Amit,

Thanks a lot. I have reviwed your thread.

As long as hardware compatability is concerned MCS 7825-H3 can be upgraded to 8.5

Can you please just gudie me for the best possible path for the upgrade from 5.1 to 8.5

Regards

Malik
