Caller ID Number Presentation

-----------------------------------------

I have a phone with a 4 digit extension number, extension 1234.

The phone also has a 10 digit external number mask 937-331-5357.

When I call another Cisco desk phone, extension 5678 that happens to be call forwarded to a cell number, the call will complete as expected and the cell phone displays the external number mask 937-331-5357.

Here’s the issue…

If I call a Unity call handler and select an option to transfer the call to the forwarded extension 5678, the call will not route to the cell phone.

Our carrier blocks the call because the caller ID they see coming from me is the 4 digit extension number 1234 rather than the external number mask 937-331-5357.

I can work around this with a transformation pattern however, I’m trying to understand why this happens to begin with.

The question is, why is it when the call routes thru a call handler, then to the forwarded 5678 extension and then to the cell phone, the caller ID presented to the carrier is the 4 digit extension number 1234 rather than the external mask 937-331-5357 as it does when the 5678 extension is called directly?

I discovered that I can remedy this issue by making the Unity call handler transfer type to be supervised rather than release to switch. The problem I face with that is that the caller ID the cell phone will get is the pilot number for Unity rather than the number mask 937-331-5357 of the calling party which is what I want the cell phone to get.
