Hi
I'm experiencing the following issue, i would like to change the codec of my ip phone IP 7942 G to codec G711alaw, but I'm not able to, after having entered : CONF T - EPHONE 1, the only choices I've are :
G722-64K
G711ulaw
G729r8
ilbc
My configuration is a router 2921 with IOS C2900-universalk9_npe-mz.SPA.151-4.M.bin and the unified communication system is CISCO UNIFIED COMMUNICATION MANAGER EXPRESS 8.6.
What should I do to resolve my issue.
Best regards,

Ludovic,
As a general rule, Cisco IP Phones and IOS use the uLaw codec variant as their default G.711 format. They can handle aLaw streams if that is what is negotiated but my understanding is that it is auto-magically converted in the background to uLaw anyway.
Is there some overriding reason you want to use aLaw vs. uLaw?

Hi,
Me also want to change the preference of codec to A-LAw, even in CME or CUCM.
The problem is that all PBX (and ITSP) side use G711A in many country (call, MoH, supplementary services,...), so when the Cisco side make a negociation with them, cisco always send a G711U only, not G711U + G711A.
Thus creating a problem in the other side and call termination, caused by the silence due to the G711U misundersantding.
regards,
Antra

Just configure DP for A-Law.
Note: in networking when possiblew when don'bt use screentshoots, but simply text.
