Cisco 8851 Call Transfer UX

Our Attendant uses the 8851 with expansion module. When more than one external call is received and they try to transfer one of the calls to an internal extension, as soon as they hit the transfer key (soft or hard) the two external calls are merged and they disappear from the screen. Meaning the Attendant just bridged the two incoming calls together. Our business is such where we cannot have this occur. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
