Hello all
I'm prepping for my CCNA Voice and I've been trying to get a home lab set up. I'm part the way there, I managed to get an SPA303 working with CME 8.5. I'm now trying to get IP Communicator which is running on my desktop to talk to CME. IP Communicator version is 8.6.1.0. I'm trying to configure the IP Communicator as ephone 1 assigned ephone-dn 9. Any help is much appreciated.
IP Communicator does not register
SCCP Port (port 2000) on CME is closed
IP Communicator continuously displays "Registering", but never actually registers. The status messages on the IP Communicator are:
SEP74D02BA25C06.cnf.xml
No Trust List Installed
Error Updating Locale
I noticed in Wireshark that the phone sends packets to the CME on port 2000, but the CME responds with a reset (I confirmed with NMAP that the port is closed). See attached picture. Below is my config. I have confirmed that the phone can and does pull its config from CME via TFTP.
The phone is not going to be in a special VLAN.
DHCP is provided by a Windows domain controller that is configured with option 150.
There are no firewalls between myself and CME (aside from my host firewall - it is configured to allow IP Communicator)

Hi Grant,
Please try to "shut" and "no shut" on the telephony service and then see if the phone registers.
Also, as per capture we see continuous resets from CME and then phone fails to find the locale file. Please also share the output of "show flash", if the above does not resolve the issue.

It worked! I'm so happy that it worked, but on other hand it makes me ever so frustrated that I spent literally hours trying to figure that out and it was the telephony equivalent of turning it off and on again bahahaha. I'm watching wireshark and the resets have stopped. The phone is no longer searching for any of those files.
Let me ask the silly question, why did that work? What does shutting it off and on again reset that wasn't working previously?

Glad to know that it worked!!
Well, many times we see even in cucm, we have the configuration setup properly but still the phone does not register. Then either we reset the phone or restart the call manager service.
In CME, when you shut the telephony service and no shut it again, it refreshes the configuration that it presents to the phone.
