CUCM Broadcast Line Group - Busy Issue

TONY SMITH

Hi,

This is CUCM 11.5 (11.5.1.12900-21).   The customer wants a group of phones to ring simultaneously for incoming calls, and for the caller to receive Busy if all the phones are in use.   The problem that I find is that a ringing line is treated as busy, meaning that if a second call comes in while the first is ringing, the second caller gets Busy.   If I increase the busy trigger on the line appearances this does not happen, but then we don't return busy even when all the phones are truly in use.

Has anyone found a work-around or solution for this?

Thanks,   Tony S

Hi Tony,

When a phone is in the ringing state, it "counts" against the busy trigger. You can test this by simply trying to manually place 2 calls at the same time directly to a DN with a busy trigger of 1. The second call will hit the busy action.

A potential solution to this would be to enable call queuing on the hunt pilot for a short period of time (around 10 seconds) and upload a MoH file that sounds like ringback. This should prevent the callers from hitting the busy trigger when there is another call ringing in front of them. After the 10 seconds has expired you can send the call wherever you like with the forward hunt no answer.

I have not had a chance to test this, but it makes sense to me from a logical standpoint.

Hi, just saw this post. I haven't tested your suggestion, but I have a feeling that if the call is queued then it is effectively connected as far as the PSTN is concerned. So if we enabled queuing then when all phones are truly busy, with connected calls, the next incoming call would be connected to the queue rather than returning busy. I can't see how queuing would suit where there's no overflow or no-answer call handling.
