Hello guys!
I plans to deploy CUCM SME as sip agregation point between some CUCM clusters. Please provide an explanation about ordering for CUCM SME. Do i need to purchase separate licenses for this?

Hi,

So far the Session license is RTU license, however as per the datasheet it can be enforced in future version.

Which version you use depends on your existing setup, you may go with 11.X version.

On the CCW we have 10.X, 11.X and 12.X version available for ordering.

How do I license my SME??

SME requires no license, you can simply add the CUCM server to your ELM / PLM server and that would be it, if for any reason you want to use the co-res ELM / PLM to handle only SME, you can order a "SME License" which will be a license with just a few users in it so your SME is considered to be in a valid licensing situation.

Cisco Unified Communications Solutions Ordering Guide

For 9.X/10.X SME systems – no software or node licenses are required, and session licenses are issued as RTU certificates (paper licenses). A SME 9.X/10.X does not require physically installed licenses. However, a SME 9.X/10.X is required to be managed by a registered Enterprise License Manager (ELM) or Cisco Prime License Manager (Cisco Prime LM)

  1. A customer can add a SME system to their product inventory for an ELM/Cisco Prime LM already registered for the customer’s existing CUCM or CUC systems.
  2. A customer can request to register a separate ELM/Cisco Prime LM – only for their registered SME. This is done by contacting licensing@cisco.com and requesting licenses to register there SME ELM/Cisco Prime LM. A nominal amount of UCL Essential licenses will be issued in order to register a separate ELM/Cisco Prime LM used only for SME.

Hi,

For CUCM to work as SME you require the SIP session license "SME-SESSION-LIC"

Software will be same as CUCM software.

Please note for below lines where you get default SME license when you have CUWL PRO / UWL meeting license on your CUCM.

One Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Manager Edition (SME) session license for every 5 UWL-Pro users.

One Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Manager Edition (SME) session license for every 5 UWL-Meetings users.

Licensing

The basic unit of licensing for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition is number of sessions. In Version 8.0 there is no enforced licensing. Future versions of the application will have licensing enforcement.

●   A session is any SIP, H.323, or SCCP call that exits a trunk in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition. Examples of sessions include:

◦     Calls that are in tandem with the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition between two different PBXs or clusters

◦     Calls that go from a PBX or cluster to a SIP trunk

◦     Calls that originate from the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition and go to another PBX or trunk

●   Although Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition is optimized for PBX aggregation and SIP trunking, it can also register SIP and SCCP phones. Each device (Cisco Unified IP Phones, soft phones, third-party devices, and video devices) provisioned in the system corresponds to a User Connect License (Enhanced IP User, Basic IP User, Public Space, or Analog). Device licensing is enforced in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Session Management Edition.

Hello Rajkumar!

Thanks for explanations.
Could you give any references to offical docs?
Which version of SME is currently recomended?

and one more question: Is the SME-SESSION-LIC is RTU license?
