DSP required ?

Hello, my CUCM cluster is connected to a gateway router (running CME). It connects to my ITSP via a SIP trunk.

There is no transcoding taking place, as I am using G711 in my CUCM  cluster and G711 is also being used for between the gateway and the  ITSP.

My question is does this gateway actually need a hardware DSP in order to get calls out to the ITSP and receive calls ?

Can you have functional VOIP gateways without any hardware DSPs installed ?

Hi,

Basically, DSPs are required if u have PSTN terminated on to your router like E1/T1 PRI or FXS /FXO cards inserted on to your router.

DSPs are also required if u are using Conference with G.729 Codec.

In your case, since u are using G711, no DSPs would be required.
