enable POE on my L3 switch C4507-R series

Hi guys,

I have a working POE module of 48 ports (WS-X4248-RJ45V) on my C4503-E switch and I would like to use the module on my other switch C4507R.

The switch recognizes the POE module but it does not power my poe devices such as IPhone even after I configure the interfaces with the auto power inline config. When I put back the poe mudule on the other switch 4503 E it works normally, starting to think it has to do with hardware compatibility. Any help guys?

Check if below bug is relevant.

CSCef87815    C4K_SWITCHMANAGER-4-S2WERRORREPORT and POE doesnot function

Regards,

Mohammed Noor

Hi Khan,

I did not understand your reply relevant to poe not functioning. Could you be more specific?

I meant check if you match the symptoms of defect CSCef87815

On Catalyst 4000/4500 series switches with 802.3af POE cards,
C4K_SWITCHMANAGER-4-S2WERRORREPORT message may be seen on console and POE
functionality
may be affected.

The following 802.3af POE cards are affected:
- WS-X4248-RJ45V
- WS-X4248-RJ21V
- WS-X4548-GB-RJ45V
- WS-X4224-RJ45V
- WS-X4524-GB-RJ45V

Problem:
Using 802.3af POE cards on Catalyst 4000/4500 series switches, phones may
never get power over ethernet and the connected links may never come up.
Disabling the POE functionality by configuring "power inline never" on a POE,
the interface can still link up when connected to non-POE devices. Few
S2WERRORREPORT messages may also be seen on the console.

Symptoms:
- C4K_SWITCHMANAGER-4-S2WERRORREPORT messages may be seen on console
- IP Phones that receive power from the connected ethernet ports of the
switch would lose power.

Workaround:
None.

Recommended Action:
Contact TAC to open a case.

Hi,

Get show inventory and show module from chassis to get the exact SUP models. Then check the compatibility matrix for the module.

Also, enable term moni on the switch when you connect the module with logging level info. Monitor if any messages when you connect the module

Hi Baqari,

I will check tomorrow when I get to the office as I am already home and thanks for the reply.

SUP2 is old module and doesn't support new RJ-45 modules. This module is for support with SUP-E as per the datasheet.

For more details get the datasheet which will be of great help.

WS-X4148-RJ does NOT support PoE but WS-X4248-RJ45V does.

Can you please post the complete output to the command "sh power inline" to the chassis which has the WS-X4248-RJ45V installed.
