IntraDomain Federation and InterClustering

This is more a general design question , as I'm struggling with finding documentation on whether this should work.

I have IM&P ( Cluster 1)  10.5 to Lync 2010 Intradomain federated.Works fine using same domain e.g companyname.co.uk

I have IM&P (Cluster 2) 10.5 Interclustered to IM&P10.5 (Cluster 1). Works fine using the same domain e.g companyname.co.uk

Question is should I be able to communicate from Cluster 2 to the Lync 2010 via cluster 1.I have tested it and it doesn't work, however the question is  should it?

Actually having just written this I think I have answered my own question.It seems that no this won't work as is , both IM&P clusters need to be Intradomain federated to the Lync 2010 infrastructure  and then it should

Interested to know if anyone has this working though
