Messages "message was deleted without being read" are showing up in voice mail

We have Unity 7.0(2) and 2003 exchange server.  A new subscriber is reporting that there are over 100 messages saved in his voice mail.  The subscriber account was recently imported from exchange.  The saved messages are "Receipt, message was deleted without being read" and they are 4 and 6 months old.  Is there an option/setting that will eliminate "message was deleted without being read" showing up in his voice mail?

Are these returns recipts that are showing up in the user's inbox?   If so, I had a similar problem a while back.   Here is how to turn off return reciepts for Unity.
