Plantronics APU-7 and Cisco 8961/9951/9971 support

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has had any success configuring a Plantronics APU-7 electronic hook switch adapter with a Cisco 8961/9951/9971 phone? If configurations need to be made within Unified Communications Manager, where can those settings be found?

My office recently purchased a Plantronics CS70N headset with the APU-7 hook switch for use on Cisco 8961 and 9951 IP phones. When the headset and hookswitch are connected via the side USB port an active connection between the headset and basestation will remain active for approximately one second before ending. No dial tone is ever emitted from the headset when using the hookswitch adapter.

I have some concerns that the hook switch itself is defective as the basestation and headset work properly when configured inline of the phone's handset. However, I am reluctant to return the APU-7 if this is just a UCM configuration problem.

Unlike the 7945, which lists the Wireless Headset Hookswitch Control option within the Device Configuration menu on the phone, the 8961 and 9951 phones do not have such an option. Our central IT department was met with similar results when digging around within UCM.

Plantronics tech support has insisted that the symptoms described mean that HHC is not enabled for the phone, but did not provide any additional information as to where that setting may be found.

The phone's firmware is 8961.9-1-2

UCM version: 8.5.1

Thank you very much for your assistance.

I have the exact same problem except with an APU-71.  Are there any solutions?  I am on version 10.5 of UCM

I cannot say for certain with your particular configuration, but this is what we did to get things up and running:

Within UCM, ensure that the "Site USB Port" setting is set to "Enabled" and that the "Enable/Disable USB Classes" setting is set to "Audio Class".
