Hi all,
I'm having a problem when I try to backup my Cisco Unity Express V7.1 through FTP. I have a 2851 router with CUE7.1 installed and configured on it. I have setup an ftp site inside the network where I want to save all the data (configuration, histroy, data). I can ping the ftp site from the router by ip address and I have tested the logon to the ftp site through both Windows explorer and Dos ftp commands so it seems that the security is setup ok. When I run the backup through with the web-GUI or the CUE command interdace on the router I get the following reason for failure:
Configuration: Failure Connection to backup server failed: 550 CiscoPW: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
CiscoPW is the ftp site virtual directory and there is nothing in this location. I setup a different virtual directory but got the same message. I have tried the backup procedure in the Cisco command refernce guide but that does nto make any difference.
Any help on this would be great!
Thanks.

Try to use another FTP server SW.
Don't use virtual drive with FTP.

What free ftp software would you recommend?

Try freeftpd if the file size is less than 1 GB.

Have you checked the user permissions on the FTP server to make sure it can create/modify and delete files?
If you've done that, you might try running a packet sniffer to see what's actually going on and where it's failing, or debugging on the backup to see what you might find out.

User permissions are fine because I can transfer a text file to the ftp site using the DOS ftp comands so there does not seem to be any issue with write access to the site. When I turn on the trace command on the router when doing ht eback, it does not give me any detail and fails straight away. I'll try the packet sniffer and see what they turns up.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Just an update on where I am on this issue. I tried various FTP server software but it made no difference. I ran a packet sniffer but could not see anything wrong but to be honest, I'm not too sure what I looking for here. I had a look at the log file created by the windows FTP server and I think I have come across what maybe the issue. It seems that CUE is passing the command "mkd CiscoPW" to the FTP server and is trying to create a folder called CiscoPW even though that folder already exists as a virtual directory to a folder that is not in the root of the ftproot dirctory. I have changed the default access to the root of the default FTP site to give write access.
I will try the backup again out of office hours and see if this resolves it.

I have got the backup to work now. The main issue seemed to be that the backup would only work using sftp and not just ftp. Once I configured FreeFTPd as a SFTP server, the backup runs fine. I have tested it from 2 routers on different subnets without any issue. Thanks all for helping me figure this out.
