Route filter - need some explanation

I dont understand route filters, can someone explain it for me?

Lets take exmple from CIPT1 book:

NANP number: 972 555-1234 where we have: 972 - area-code, 555 - office code, 1234 subscriber

what will do RF_1 like: area-code - exist.

and another one RF_2: area-code - dose not exist, office code - exist

Route FIlters are specific to each dial plan, hence you use different ones for US, UK, etc. The big idea behind them is that they allow you to consolidate route patterns.

In the above examples area-code existis as pertianing to NANP dial plan means that the dialed number includes a 3 digit area code, simple.

The second example states that the number is basically being dialed as 7 digits, and the area code is not included, however the office code (exchange) does.
