Should I Daisy-chain connection from a Cisco 7940 to a Cisco 7911?

Hello,

A Cisco 7940 gets VLAN Access from a POE connection. Then transfers VLAN Access to a Cisco 7911 daisy-chained to its 10/100 PC port.

Building office is leased. We are using all available POE ports at that office. The second phone is powered with an adapter.

Is this against best-practice? It had been working this way for a while now but now there are frequent disconnections. Network cable removal and reconnection is all it takes for both phones to be connected again.

Turns out the company running this building has an IT department. They say this Daisy chain connection is not intended by Cisco.

Is this true? Or is it just a way for them not to be too cooperative?

That's true, we don't expect you to daisy chain phones like that, we expect a PC hooked on the PC port on the back of the phone.

I should then find a POE switch and share VLAN access to other phones over it?

Any suggestions on this option?

Thanks.

Yes, discuss with the IT department to find available options for you.
