Should I use SRST?

Hi all

I have a question about SRST deployment, we have a number of standalone cucme appliances that we have to manage individually which is a pain.

We have a main cucm cluster in our HQ site in the UK.

I am about to deploy a new site in Russia with a cucme.

My question is, should we be bringing this site into our main HQ cluster in the UK using SRST, or keep it separate?

Many thanks

I would recommend integrate the two phones system and use SRST because it will be easier to manage and offer advanced CUCM features to the users. Plus your connection is MPLS and not some L3 VPN connection over eg. a/v DSL. You should also check the delay between the sites, that should not exceed 150ms at most (which I suppose it doesn't).

CME-SRST, unlike traditional SRST (configured under call-manager-fallback), will give you more features for your phones, when in SRST mode.

This will clarify things for you: SRST Fallback Mode

That depends on several factors:

- Is your connection between UK and RS stable/uncongested (need for Qos).

- Would you have administration issues; i.e. people from RS would need access to main CUCM?

- There is also a matter of cost (you will need CUCM licenses)

Other than that, SRST would do the job for you. Of-course in "traditional" SRST you lose some of CUCM features, but if you use CME-SRST you can give them the same functionality as in CME (i,e, hunt-groups, phone templates).

Hi

There will be a mpls connection with QOS on between these sites.

would you recommend to use SRST?

What is the diff between SRST and CME-SRST?

Cheers
