SIP credentials/authentication order ?

Hello, when a gateway connects with an external SIP ITSP server do you need both the "authentication xxxx" and also the "credentials xxx" commands ? i.e. would you:

- use the "authentication username xx password xx" establish digest authentication.

- then use the "credentials number xx username xx password xx realm xx" establish a connection

i.e does the gateway first establish an authenticated session using the "authentication" command and then proceed to provide regisration details via te "credentials" command ?

Or would you only need to use one or the other of those two commands ?

Do I have this right ?

Thanks kindly.

Hi.
Authentication is used for outgoing session to the TSP ie when you dial outside number.
Credential is used to register an account to receive inbound calls.
Authentication works with sip-server command and credential with registrar.
