Switch Version on Publisher - what happens with Subscriber?

Hi all,

I currently make my thoughts about the things which happens during the switch version process of the Publisher.

So what I tested is I switch the version on the Pub (8.0.3 -> 8.5.) and after the Pub was back online with all services, all telephony stuff was still on the Subscriber who was still untouched. Of course this makes sense but is there a way to force, for example, the route list to register on the Publisher instead of subscriber? I tried it with a simple reset in the hope that it would register on the Pub ... but no luck.

I am just trying to understand the process, nothing else... because I actually want to know if there is a process that we can reduce the outage time to a real minimum. I cannot really think of one cause of the missing dbreplecation but maybe someone is out there who knows one

Thanks

Cheers

Mike

Hi Michael,

You dont want to have the Publsiher running on a different version from the subscriber. You will break a lot of things. So dont go down that route.

Secondly phones register to cucm using device pools. If you want your phones to register to your publisher, you have to make it the primary server in the phone device pool

Hi aokanlawon,

thanks for your answer.

I know that I shouldn't run Publisher on a different version from the subscriber and I don't want to have this in my environment. I am actually just interested in the services and route lists.

When switch over the Publisher to a new version, then Phones, route Lists, MGCP Gateways gets registered on the Subscriber. That is what configured in the Device Pool (CM Group).

When the Publisher is back online with all services, the phones does go back to their Publisher because it is reachable again. What happens with the MGCP Gateways in this state? Why does the route lists not going back to their Publisher?

Also, when I switch over the version also on the Subscriber, how long will it take for the route lists, gateways, other services to go back to their Publisher ?

Unfortunately I found no detail guide or steps what happens in that or in that case.

Cheers

Mike
