Time Stamp on all the phones is wrong

cheajt

We're running CUCM Ver 7.1.5, the time stamp on all the phones is 4 minutes fast.  How do you resolve this issue?

Phones installed include: 7962, 7942, 7911, 7912, 7937, 7940, 7941.

Gareth,

Thanks,  I'll look over your references, but I'm thinking my problem may stem from the fact that the NTP service is running off of my two 3945 Voice Gateways and the voice devices are all on an isolated network.  The VoIP network does not connect to the regular companies network.  I'm wondering if it's possible to disable NTP and just adjust the time via the Operating Sytem Administrator web interface or if that would even work.

Joaquin

What's your ntp reference for the 3945? Since your CUCM server gets its time from the 3945 (I wrongly assumed you were getting the time locally), that's where the issue is. Can you show us the output of:

show ntp status

and

aho ntp associaions

This will show us the time on the 3945 and where the 3945 is getting it's time from. It's really not a good idea to have a local time source for cucm... that would rely on the cmos of the server and you're way more likely to have some time slippage.

Gareth

Gareth,

See the putty log, the aho ntp associaions command didn't work.

Sorry... that last command was supposed to be:

show ntp associations

I'm trying to figure out exaclt where your systems are getting time info from. I'm assuming that the time on the gateway is also off?

Gareth

Gareth,

The 10.28.0.35 and 10.28.0.36  devices are my voice two gateways, the ones that connect to the PSTN and the VoIP network.  When I query the "Phone NTP references" from CUCM  Administrator web interface it list the two gateway addresses above and my publisher & subscriber servers too.  Below is the associations output from the gateway.

On that Gateway you've got a reference for one of the pool.ntp.org servers (192.43.244.18) which has actually been taken out of the ntp server pool http://www.pool.ntp.org/scores/192.43.244.18

Check on the NIST for other addresses you can point to.

Gareth

OK, now we're getting somewhere,

Thanks!

Joaquin

Hi.
Because NTP is a key service for CUCM and all UC platforms, you cannot remove all ntp servers from CUCM.
The command to adjust time via cli is:
date (hh:mm:ss:MM:DD:YYYY)
But it will fail to run because the presence of an NTP Server.
