Translation Pattern for *

I have a pretty simple question I think.  I have tested briefly setting the * keypress on any phone internally to translate to an external extension using a translation pattern and it seems to work, but I did not leave it as I am wondering if there are any possible side effects to doing that.  Does anyone know or have any ideas of what to watch for?

No, most usually it's *something but it can certainly be only * if that's what you need.

Thank you.  I thought so but wanted to be sure.  I did wind up using *2 as it seemed to fit what we are trying to do and leave * open for something a little more universal if necessary.
