Unable to use Opus Codec with 7821 IP Phone

Level 1

The SDP negotiation fails. It seems Opus is not available in the phone.

I am using firmware version sip78xx.11-7-1-17 which is supposed to include support for this codec.

Any help?

Regards

Luis

Kindly find the below link helpful

The phones now support the Opus audio codec, which offers an improved, higher-quality audio for voice calls. Opus is supported on Cisco Unified Communications Manager version 11.0(1) and later.

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry, I'm using Asterisk instead of the  Cisco Unified Communications Manager :-(

Thanks.

So, I believe that answers your discussion. Find the data sheet helpful as well for supported codecs

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/collaboration-endpoints/unified-ip-phone-7800-series/data-sheet-c78-729488.html

And as per link share earlier, Opus is supported on Cisco Unified Communications Manager version 11.0(1) and later.

If the new firmware supports Opus, in theory it would be usable without CUCM in the same way as the other codecs. But the phone debug command "show capabilities" does not show Opus Codec capability and the phone does not offer Opus in the SDP negotiation.
