I built a unity enviorment as follows:
Unity 4.0
Off box exchange
DC
The scenario above was working and ready to restore from DiRT production server, which was being removed from production.
I began to have hardware problems on the new unity server, so we went with a new MCS server. I now have to rebuild Unity and Exchange, but am curious as to what implications arise by leaving the domain controller. I would prefer not to scrap that box and start anew.

Does your DC contain an Exchange message store?
All your DC will do is process VM logins and hand out GPO's. That's it. You can add as many DCs as you want to a domain and have no ill implications. If anything, you'll have more boxes to distribute login load around the domain (as long as you make any DC added in a global catalog server).

No, the Exchange message store is on a dedicated server for Exchange.
