Hi.
As per this doc, 10.5 comes with iOS version 15.4.3M
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/33matrix.html
The configuration file remains the same as you already have a working 8.6
What you can do is upload phone firmware available con Cisco Software Download.

I'm sorry, I dont think the config is the same. I tried to set up CME 10.5 the other day at my house and was unable to get a phone to register. I rolled back to CME 9.1 and had no issues. I had an off the cuff conversation with another voice engineer, and they mentioned that phones register differently in 10.5. I dont have any more insight beyond that. But I would venture in to this carefully.

hi John
What kind of endpoints do you have registered on 8.6
I migrated from 8.6 to 10.5 without any issue.
If you can, please post your config.
Thanks
Cheers

I was using a 9971 for testing purposes. That would be a SIP endpoint configured under Voice Register Global, and Voice Register Pool. If you're running all SCCP endpoints, it may be a non issue.
I cant share the config because I have since torn it down.
edit: I reread your original post, and you stated they are 78xx phones. I just looked them up, and they are all SIP phones. There is no SCCP build. So I believe you will have the same issue, and you should really investigate before rolling up your IOS.

Sorry, not trying to dominate this thread. I found a useful link for you.

It looks like you need to add a "voice pool type" to get things working. That must be the variation to the config that my peer was mentioning.

Hi John.
That link indicate which model supports fast-track configuration that doesn't mean that it's a new way to configure ip phones.

This is the way to add a 9971 starting from 8.5
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice-unified-communications/sip-ip-phone-software/113048-reg-9971ip-cucm.html
What I mentioned is that you probably need to upload new phone firmware on cme flash

I'll have to try this again. My 9971 is bound to a CUCM at version 10.5, so I would expect that the firmware would be compatible with CME 10.5. But I'll download the latest load from cisco and try it again.
Based on your experience, is there no config difference in 10.5 compared to 8.x and 9.x?
