Upgrading from Unity 5 to Unity 7

I am in the process of upgrading to Unity 7, pretty much just doing a new install.

I have a partner Exchange Server 2003.

My questions are,

Can I use the DIRT backup from Unity 5 to restore on the new Unity 7 server?

If users have serveral messages in their inbox will they be lost?

No, a DIRT backup can only be restored in the same version from which it was taken.

If you're upgrading the server not sure why you plan to restore?

If you are setting a new server and want to migrate the info use COBRAS.
