I purchased a CP-8851 phone to replace my SPA-942 which has a damaged display but is still working over SIP. I've searched through the Cisco PDFs, both User Guide types and Admin and Maintenance and there is no mention of configuring the device to support SIP that I've been using from my VoIP provider. I am able to view the GUI of the phone and it essentially looks like mostly read only info even under the Network Access heading.
Is this only an Enterprise phone that only works with a UC Server or can I use this with SIP? If it works with SIP, where do I enter the credentials to effect a SIP registration?

CP-8851 is not an SPA device. So you are off-topic a lot in SPA IP Phones community.
I moved this thread to more appropriate community - I wish your's chance to receive valuable reply will increase.

Dan,
You didn't tell me which "more appropriate community" you moved my posting to, but nevertheless, I didn't receive any replies.
Since then, I sent the unit back. One comment I heard from a salesrep was that any devices beginning with the CP designation are for the Unified Comm Server and won't work as a standalone SIP phone.
It's also unfortunate that Cisco chooses to have a third subset after you've already selected a fairly narrow focus of SPA series phones. The third drop-down for either XML or Broadsoft only alienates those who could otherwise have been helped.

As far as I'm aware, nearly all Cisco phones, from SPA units to CP (except the voice conference units and DX) can be supported with 3rd party call-server such as Asterisk and 3CX. It doesn't matter if the phone is running SIP or SCCP, they can be supported.
Asterisk, for instance, support SIP natively. One can just Google the term "Asterisk SCCP" and you'll find results talking about "Chan-SCCP" module which can be easily added into Asterisk. If you are a GUI kind of person, "Chan-SCCP" also comes with GUI interface (Google "FreePBX SCCP").
My Asterisk at home is in a humble Raspberry Pi and I've been able to get a number of Cisco "CP" phones to work with Asterisk.

Just stumbled on this thread.
Can you describe what you setup is with your VoIP? So if your site doesn't have Cisco-based call-server, is the VSP (Voice Service Provider) support 3rd party call-server, like Asterisk?

Leo,
First, thanks for the reply.
I've already sent this phone back, but here's the answer to your question. I attempted to use it with my VoIP Service Provider. They supply only three things necessary to register: 1.) proxy address 2. ) user id 3.) Password. I had an older SPA-942 (and still do, but display doesn't work) and that registered immediately years ago and still works.
I didn't see any place that looked even close to where you could populate those entries into the CP-8851.

Can be done. You'll need to do some stuff to the phone because the phone starts registering to something else.
