BGP addpath / multipath

Hi,

could someone plz clarify difference between BGP add-path and BGP multi-path concept ?

This is outside my area of knowledge.

I think add-path is sending when sending prefixes to a neighbour.  multi-path is used with prefixes you have received, and you want to use multiple equal cost paths (outbound).

Somewhere I read this :

Add-paths extension allows BGP speakers to send and receive multiple paths for the same prefix without the new paths implicitly replacing any previous ones."

so may be they  both  are part of same concept..
