I am facing a issue with mVPN data mdt convergence. Scenario is given below
CE1(Sender)-PE1--P---PE2---CE2(Receiver)
|
PE3
|
CE3 (Receiver)
SP core is using SSM and customer is using auto-rp. Confgiuration of VRF is given below
rd 65500:120
route-target export 65500:111
route-target import 65500:111
mdt default 239.232.3.8
mdt data 239.232.129.224 0.0.0.31 threshold 1
CE2 & CE3 is receiving the streams but at PE1 end when I see the mdt send it shows only one group 239.232.129.224. According to me the data mdt will create with each PE where the stream needs to be forwarded and a ip from data mdt pool will be used.

Shivlu,
This is correct behavior. There is not one data MDT group per receiving PE but rather one data MDT group per (s,g). So if you have one stream being sent to two PEs in this case, you only have one data MDT group.

Hi Hriter
Thanks for your reply. It means data mdt will work w.r.t to the multicast groups not with the PE.
e.g. If customer is having 10 multicast group and SP is using "mdt data 239.232.129.224 0.0.0.31 threshold 1" which covers 32 ip addresses. In this case 239.232.129.224 - 239.232.129.233 data ,dt groups will be used.

Shivlu,
That is correct.

Shivlu,
Just to add that if you had more than 32 streams going concurrently, data MDT group addresses would be reused.
