Hi
We have two PE nodes connecting to Pnodes with redundant links. The two PE nodes are in remote locations (same City). The cost of the longhaul links are very expensive, so we would like to put a link in place between the two PE nodes to get around the high cost of bandwidth. Is this an acceptable solution? Can it be a normal MPLS link between the PE's, or could the subinterfaces be placed in a VRF? Please see diagram.

Hi friend,
MPLS is not concerned with Physical layer.
If you are making subinterface for saveing cost than it's ok u cal apply the vrf on Subinterface/Logical interfaces.
As your attached dig is not opening i cant tell you exact configuration.

Hello Henk,
As far as I understood, you want to connect PEs, 2 each in different locations and you're considering a single physical (MPLS) link between the two.
This is possible, it all depends what exactly you want to do, if connectivity is the only criteria, in that case even a plain vanilla would do... like IPLC...
VRFs can be configured on subinterfaces.
The point of having different links is redundancy, is that not an important factor?

Your diagram is not clear.
You want to connect the two PE's in Windhoek, and connect the two PE's in Oshakati. Correct?
So at the moment, to get traffic from one Windhoek PE to the other Windhoek PE, that traffic must go via the VPN.
And by connecting the two local PE's, you want traffic to travel from one to the other via the direct path. Is this correct?
If you are the Service Provider (you control the Core environment), then connect the local PE's together and make that link part of the Core MPLS network. This would be the most seamless way to do it.
